Congratulations and an Apology to J.B. Shuck

Dear J.B.,

First of all, let me congratulate you on your selection to represent the RedHawks and the Pacific Coast League in next week's AAA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. That is truly a great honor, and I am certain that you will do the Astros organization, the RedHawks, your family and the entire state of Ohio proud on July 13.

Having said that, I would like to apologize to you and your family. Several weeks ago, a few members of your family approached me for my opinion about your chances of being in the AAA All-Star Game. Apparently, travel plans neeeded to be made. At that point in time, I was dubious of your chances and indicated that fact in my reply. I could claim that I had no idea that David Carpenter, who you are replacing as the RedHawks representative, would be promoted to Houston. I could use the excuse that I was unaware that each team was guaranteed a representative.

However, these excuses will ring hollow if I have caused your family to miss your all-star appearance. I can only hope in this instance, they didn't listen to me.

Congratulations again with sincere apologies,
