Astros to take one Last Look at Hinze in Arizona

Kody Hinze put up a lot of numbers for Lancaster and Corpus Christi during the 2011 regular season: 27 doubles, 29 home runs and 98 RBI to name a few. However, the number he is aiming for when play begins in the Arizona Fall League Tuesday afternoon is 40.

Hinze is eligible for the Rule 5 draft for the first time this December. His time in the Arizona Fall League will be the final chance for the Astros to evaluate him before deciding whether to protect him with a 40-man roster spot in mid-Novmeber.

Hinze and seven other members of the Astros organization will be playing for the Salt River Rafters in Arizona. The River Rafters begin play at 1:35 (Minute Maid Park time) on Tuesday against Peoria.

Other Farmstros in Arizona:
Jay Austin
Jason Castro#
Jake Goebbert
Chris Hicks$
Dallas Keuchel
Roberto Pena%
Jason Stoffel
Josh Zeid

#Castro is scheduled to join the Arizona Fall League provided the health of his knee allows it.

$Like Hinze, Hicks is also Rule 5 eligible for the first time this December.

%Pena, a catcher, has been tabbed to replace Castro while he continues his recovery. Pena played 82 games for Lexington in 2011. He was drafted in 2010.
