I'm very bullish on
Jarred Cosart. Jarred
has a mid 90's fastball that can touch 98 mph. He works with a full effort delivery (lots
of movement) that has a slight pause in the leg lift (similar to that seen in
Japanese pitchers). I don't love his windup, but his stuff is hard to argue
with.
He throws a plus power curve and has a nasty change-up. It has been said
that he misses less bats than he should
considering how good his stuff is. The big thing for him is keeping the ball
down and controlling it, all while staying healthy.
2011/2012 showed major
improvement in the health department, with only a blister problem slowing him
in 2012. Cosart could end 2013 in the MLB,
but if he continues on the success of 2012 then Mr. Lunhow might not be able to
hold him back.
I imagine they will hold off on starting his service time until we see the development of some of our other prospects. His 2012 numbers showed
that he is improving in the control area so his #1 ceiling could be attainable. Cosart also got very good reviews from scouts
during his time in the AFL. It's also
worth noting that he is a huge Texans fan
