Delino is a monster athlete. Most people who are 5'9", 210 aren't prime
athletes, but Jr. is all muscle.
His athleticism is highlighted by his blazing
speed. He stole 101 bases at two levels and actually posted a better success rate
than Billy Hamilton (I got sick of hearing about Hamilton
over Deshields during the 2012 season). He will more than likely jump to AA, Corpus Christi in 2013, and we will
probably see him play some CF. He isn't
100% blocked at 2B, but if Altuve has a successful sophomore campaign we could
see DeShields move to CF.
DeShields showed
better plate discipline this year drawing 83 walks at two levels, and flashed some
power hitting(10 HR in the regular season and two in the playoffs). Bobby Heck showed a
preference for tools when he drafted DeShields and Springer as 1st rounders, and
Deshields looks like he is putting those tools together nicely. Delino is showing a good feel for 2B now that
he has gotten some experience there. If DDJ develops into
a Brandon Phillips type player then Astros will have a player to be
thrilled about for years to come
