It comes down to that one statement. I hope fans understand how good a comparison
to Eric Chavez is. If he hits like
Chavez did in his prime, then the Astros have a perennial all-star.
Astros' scouts thought that Ruiz had the
sweetest left-handed swing in the 2012 draft and were willing to pay him based on
that. Ruiz has a smooth swing with
enough loft that scouts can see power in his future. He also has great balance at the plate and
shows good pitch recognition.
Hitting isn't the only facet of his game (RIO CAN HIT!), he shows good
defensive ability at 3rd and threw 95 mph off the mound in high school. Ruiz is not going to steal many bases, but he runs
the bases just fine for a third baseman.
