2013 Pre-Season Pitcher of the Year Candidates

Travis Ballew- A 2012 draft pick out of Texas St., Ballew posted a 1.62 ERA in 39 innings for Tri-City last summer.  He had 44 strikeouts in 23 relief appearances.

Jarred Cosart- Cosart is on the brink of making it to the big leagues.  He split a blister-hampered 2012 season between Corpus Christi.  He made a total 21 appearances(20 starts), pitching 115 innings and striking out 92.

Mike Foltynewicz- Foltynewicz was the South Atlantic League's Pitcher of the Year in 2012.  He had 125 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA in 27 starts for Lexington.

Adrian Houser- A 2011 draft pick, Houser appears primed for his first year with a full-season affiliate.  He spent 2012 in Greeneville.  He made 11 starts and struck out 54 in 58 innings.

Jordan Jankowski- Jankowski was voted the Farmstros Pitcher of the Year after the 2012 season.  He made 23 relief appearances for Greeneville.  He had 53 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings.

Chia-jen Lo- If he can stay healthy, Lo fits right in with this group.  After missing most of 2010 and 2011 with a torn ligament and Tommy John surgery, Lo made 33 appearance in 2012(including the Arizona Fall League).

Kenny Long- Long capped off his first season as a professional with a California League championship as part of the JetHawks.  After being drafted last June, Long spent most of the summer with Tri-City, where he made 17 appearances and posted a 1.88 ERA before being promoted to High A Lancaster.

Lance McCullers-  McCullers was the first pitcher the Astros picked up in the 2012 draft.  He made eight starts last summer between Greeneville and the GCL Astros.  When he's not watching the new season of The Walking Dead, he should be facing the zombie batters of the Midwest League.

Brett Oberholtzer- Oberholtzer made a total of 28 starts in 2012.  Between Corpus Christi and Oklahoma City, he had 137 strikeouts in 167 innings.

Nick Tropeano- In 12 starts for Lancaster, Tropeano posted a 3.31 ERA.  Between Lexington and Lancaster in 2012, he struck out 166 in 158 innings.

Vincent Velasquez- Velasquez seems to be back from Tommy John surgery and ready to build on an abbreviated 2012 season.  In nine starts for Tri-City, he had a 3.35 ERA with 51 strikeouts.

Aaaron West- The Astros picked West out of the University of Washington in 2012.  He made 12 starts in the New York-Penn League, posting a 2.04 ERA.

Asher Wojciechowski- Wojciechowski made eight starts for Corpus last season after being acquired from Toronto.  For the Hooks, he had a 2.06 ERA in 44 IP.
